Visit to Palazzo Florio - Favignana

Favignana is full of monuments and places of interest that you can visit during your stay. First of all, and you will notice it as soon as you arrive on the island by hydrofoil, is Palazzo Florio.

It is a magnificent neo-Gothic style building, built in 1878 based on a design by one of the most famous architects of the time, Damiani Almeyda. Although externally presenting itself as an elegant and aristocratic palace, inside the serious neo-Gothic style is made lighter and at the same time elegant by the Art Nouveau furnishings and splendid wrought iron, the work of the Oreta dei Florio foundry.

The Florio palace was connected by underground passages to the Pretti where the kitchens, stables and servants' rooms were connected. The palace was not only the residence of the Florio family, but also a place where illustrious people invited to Favignana were hosted during the slaughter period, the bloody and equally evocative tuna fishing.

The palace not only represented a social and holiday destination for the Florio family and their guests, but also a refuge from the stress and sorrows of life. It was here that Donna Franca spent a long period after the death of her daughter Giovanna.

A visit to the recently restored Palazzo Florio is certainly an experience not to be missed to breathe in the air of history and art that offer unique emotions.
